About Next Stage
Next Stage is a counselling and coaching service for all members of the arts industry and their families.
Our qualified counsellors are former creatives, technicians, and arts administrators who understand the concerns and experiences unique to the industry.
For a long time we have seen the need for better mental health support in the arts industry and we aim to provide a service that’s easy to access, affordable, and relevant to you.
My name is Jessi Cohen and I am the founder of Next Stage Arts Industry Counselling. I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist who has worked in the arts industry for more than 10 years. I began my career as a musician and after several years of performing, I went back to university to do a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Whilst training and working as a counsellor, I worked in a range of roles from arts administrator, to opera performer, usher, and followspot operator. I worked with performance companies, at art galleries, festivals, and went on tour. I’ve experienced the highs that come from working in this industry: the communities and friendships that form, and the opportunities to be involved in exciting projects.
But I’ve also seen the pitfalls: the pressure, long hours, and loneliness of working away from home. And I know the struggle of trying to stay healthy and focused whilst on the road, or getting through a season!
I started Next Stage Counselling in 2018, to provide a space for anybody who feels they could use some support, a space to debrief, or help moving forward.
I am so glad you found our site.
